As a Doula I will be able to support you and your partner through the process of preparing for the labour and birth and early days of parenthood.
I do not give any medical advice, I am not medically qualified, that is the role of your medical practitioner.
I can support you in communicating with the medical practitioners to enable you to understand all the information that has been given to you, so that you can make informed decisions about your care.
I am there to support you and to inform you of the choices that can be made; I do not make any decisions for you.
We can discuss the labour and any anxieties you may have and how I can support you with this.
I can support you and your partner either at the hospitol or at home (if you are having a home birth, I do not deliver the baby's at home, that is the role of the midwives). I will be able to support you both emotionally and physically and offer suggestions during the labour. I am there to support your needs, wants and wishes and I will respect them at all times.

We will meet twice antenatally and I am always available to ring or email. Our first meeting is about getting to know each other and establishing what it is you would like from me and starting to identify what it is you would like for your labour and birth and early postnatal days. I am able to come to antenatal appointments to meet midwives. I am there to support you. I like to meet with you to discuss your birth plan (if you have one in place). It is important for me as a Doula that I know what your choices are regarding your pain management and how I can assist you and your partner in the early stages of labour, what self help methods of pain relief might help during this time.
From my own experience I can provide opportunities to try out some positions for labour and birth and identify ways to stay relaxed, as well as look at how a Tens machine works.

I am on call for you from 37 weeks of your pregnancy, which means you can call on me at anytime with the number I will make available to you. You will also be given the name of a backup Doula who you will be able to call.
In the event that I am unable to call or something unforeseen happens you will be able to call...
When you call I will want to know how quickly the contractions are coming and that you have informed the maternity unit / midwife on call, (if it is a home birth) that you believe you are in labour. We can then decide if I am coming straight to you or meeting at the hospital. I will stay with you throughout the labour and birth giving continuous support to you and your partner except in medical emergencies, when I will not be able to be with you continuously but will still be there for support.
When your baby is born I will stay until you are comfortable and everything is well or if you want me to go sooner, that is fine. I can support and help you with breastfeeding if that is your chosen method of feeding.

I am always available to contact after the birth be telephone or email. I like to meet up with you in the first couple of weeks so that we have the opportunity to discuss how the labour and birth went and I can have a lovely cuddle with your baby.

I am your lead Doula and available for you during the times stated.

  • You did not contact me to tell me you were in labour and I was not there for the birth.
