Hello!

My name is TJ, I am a qualified Doula. I support parents through one of the most important times of their lives, the day their baby is born. I have always been baby mad as long as I can remember, and wanted atleast 10! But of course that was never going to happen, but that was my dream, and if ever I had the chance to be with a small baby I was in heaven!

I think that was the start of my love of children and after my two very different births, I felt a huge pull to work with mothers & babies.

I watched every Home & Health birth programme on TV and saw a programme about Doula's and that was it, something I knew I could do and do well! As my little one was older and I lived near my parents; I took the plunge and changed my career completely!
I could only go on my births and those I had watched on TV and read about and I knew that an extra dimension in womans care was needed, a steady continuous care, someone who wouldn't judge, someone to be a constant carer to the mother, who she knew in her heart she could trust to keep her safe and never leave her side no matter how hard the labour got for her.
That is what I needed and that's what I wanted to do for other woman in childbirth.

A Doula and, I feel, a much needed person in any womans life, someone the family could look back and say "we could not have done it without her". What an honour that would be for me.

Midwives, consultant obs, counselors, nurses all have a part to play in a womans birth and so does a doula.

It is a fact that having a Doula present at a birth greatly reduces the need for intervention; the statistics show this across the board. Think of the money saved by the NHS if only they employed Doula's to help woman through labour.

That of course is not the reason I became a Doula, my reason is that I am a totally mothering type and want to give the woman the best birth that they can have with my support and encouragement, and a pool of information at my fingertips!

Not forgetting the fathers, I will guide & help them relax at the birth and encourage them to help as much as they feel they want to!
My name is Tessa Baker. I am 43, I have 2 children; Kenedi Baker age 13 and Blu Baker age 6. Kenedi was an emergency C-Section and Blu was a ventuse.
I also have a bonus boy, Bradley Baker who is 14 and a fantastic husband Kevin Baker who teaches tennis in Portsmouth.
