Birth doula enables a woman to have the most satisfying and empowering time that she can during her pregnancy, birth and early days as a new mother. This type of support also helps the whole family to relax and enjoy the experience.

Birth doulas are trained and experienced in childbirth, they have a good knowledge and awareness of the female physiology. (However the doula is not supporting the mother in a clinical role - this is the job of your midwife / medical staff) A doula can help with a home or hospital birth, she will give you continuous support during the entire labour and birth.

Postnatal doulas offer emotional and practical support to you, in your home, following the birth of your baby. Their work is about enabling a family to take care of itself. They facilitate this by offering encouragement and suggestions. This allows the mother time to bond with her baby.
